H.G. Wells---person who could look into the future

H.G Wells, (1866-1946), English novelist, journalist, historian and most famous for his works of science fiction. Wells's best-known books are The Time Machine (1895), The Invisible Man (1897), and The War Of The Worlds (1898). From 1893 Wells became a full-time writer. As a novelist Wells made his debut with The Time Machine(1895), a parody of English class division and a satirical warning that human progress is not inevitable. The book was a huge success in the western world. Wells was the first person who talked about time being the 4Dimension and this fact was five years later on proved by Einstein. Thereafter he wrote many science-fiction classics as The Island Of Dr. Moreau (1896), The Invisible Man (1897) and The War of the Worlds (1898). The First Men On The Moon (1901) was a prophetic description of the methodology of space flight and The War In The Air (1908) describes a catastrophic aerial war. Wells was the first person who wrote about the terrest

Real soldiers in a videogame --- American fantasy....

Move over, GI Joe. The US army has found some recruits in its latest effort to enlist soldiers. In a campaign targeting teenagers, the army announced on Thursday a new version of its “America’s Army” video game, incorporating digital likenesses of eight actual soldiers who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The “America's Army Real Heroes” programme will also include a series of $10 action figures, based on the same real soldiers, in store shelves by Christmas. The American army is believed to spend about $2.5 million annually on the free PC game, a first-person shooter in which players go through a simulated boot camp or team up with other real players online in three-dimensional battles. About 27 million copies of the taxpayer-funded game have been distributed since its July 4, 2002, debut, and there are about 7.5 million registered users. Gamers can get “America’s Army” from recruiters or by downloading it from various video game web sites. The game is often included with comp

Pledge to Non-violence....

Found a nice article worth this blog in today's editorial section of Times of India... The author Arun Gandhi is president, M K Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence, Rochester. The article in some what abstract shape reads as "It is a pity that much of humanity never did learn the art of forgiving because they were brought up on the misguided notion that one must ‘forgive and forget’. No wonder the reaction of victims of violence such as 9/11 is one of anger, frustration and desire for vengeance. The true meaning of forgiveness is to build a society where such violence would never occur again. To understand this concept it is important that we understand the difference between the culture of violence and culture of non-violence. On this day 100 years ago, Mahatma Gandhi came to the conclusion that to preserve humanity we must abandon the culture of violence and adopt the culture of non-violence. The culture of violence has its roots in the materialistic s

The crucial last 10 minutes....

Yet another day; yet another defeat. Every time the Indian hockey team seems to be poised for a victory, they simply comit some sucidal mistake and give away the victory. A lacklustre display of hockey takes it all away from them in the last ten minutes or so... When everything seems to be going right the Indian team is unable to deliver the last knockout punch... Even much more heartening is the fact that the goals conceeded by them throughout the tournament are not the ones earned by their oppositions. The Indian team seems to be firing on all cylinders till the last ten minutes and then something goes seriously wrong and the players seem to be playing as individuals rather than as a team. What one can learn from the Indian performence at the hockey world cup is that there is a crucial difference between a good performence and a good result.. Let's hope some good results can be seen in future from this team than just good performences coz. at the end of the day what really matter

Incredible India...

Unwelcoming India?? Well India has been ranked the fourth top travel destination in a group of 100 but on the other hand the World Bank has ranked India an abysmal 134 among 175 countries for doing business. The different takes on India by the two surveys are, however, not contradictory. India’s high ranking among travellers merely reflects its attraction as a tourist destination. But unfortunately that doesn’t translate into real footfalls. That just goes to show that India, despite its size and diversity, is lagging far behind other Asian countries let alone European destinations. Similar trends are visible in foreign investment. Last year, China was the developing world’s top investment destination with $79 billion. India was way behind at $6.7 billion. The reasons for India’s poor showing in both tourism and FDI boil down to one thing — sarkari red tape. There are several obstacles that trip up foreigners keen on visiting India. Most visitors will tell you that getting an Indian v

Well m not a movie freak but can't miss movies like these either... Munna and Circuit are back! The lovable goons embark on their new adventure with LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI. Well all in all its really a good qualitative cinema work done once again.... Bole to bindas... The movie relives the "Gandhigiri" in present day scenario.... It not only entertains but also enlightens the audience and thats what cinema is all about... On the whole, LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI is a sparkling follow up to MUNNABHAI M.B.B.S. Its strength lies not just in Munna and Circuit's chemistry, but also reliving the teachings of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.

Teacher's Day special...

Over the years, as a student i’ve watched the student-teacher equation evolve: "From guru as God, guru as all-knowing — “ Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshwara, Guru sakshat, Param Brahmn tas mai Shri Guru vai namaha ” — to guru as friend and equal, as someone who doesn’t always know best. The sooner a teacher realises this, the better it is for her. Today’s guru and shishya are partners in the process of teaching and learning. They inspire, motivate and learn from each other. The teacher is only a facilitator, one who helps the student grow to his potential, become a self-learner. The teacher is only one of many sources." But is this all really true in present day scenario. The events like Ujjain(i think the name of the city is more than enough to let u know bout the incident m takin bout) have certainly made people realize the harsh realities of this student-teacher relationship. Well i can't figure out much of my classmates in last seventeen years or so, who h

Wanna be a student leader or a Movie Star...

I bet u will have to rethink about ur decision of not leading the strike at college from the forefront coz. of a fear of being phtographed by the media and bringing shame to ur family(as many think)... but wat happened in case of Yamini Sharma is quite different... "A college protest over the use of cellphones on campus has put Yamini Sharma on the high road to Bollywood stardom. Whether Bollywood director Satish Kaushik was impressed by Yamini’s bravado as she defied riot police on Chandigarh streets is not known. But he was clearly struck by her beauty. Seeing her picture in The Times of India this week, Kaushik, who was in Chandigarh, hunted her down and offered her the lead role in his next multi-million production. Yamini, whose parents want her to do an MBA, is mulling the offer. " So wat do u think bout that... do let me know...
