India at 60...
Friends its been quite a time since i've blogged and what could be a better time than this to induce some life to this blog. India is Celebrating its 60th year of Independence and today at 60 it stands way ahead to other countries of its age. But there are some questions that comeup in every Indian's mind when we talk about the past, present and future of this country.
Well in this blog i am going to try and answer them for myself, as a part of this 1 billion nation. The questions have been taken from a debate on times now....
* Whenever you look back to past 60 years, which one incident do you think has made the country move on to the progress path?
* Whenever you look back to past 60 years, which one incident do you think has made the country move on to the progress path?
-> Well there are many such incidents one can think of but i feel that the very day the constitution was drafted standsout separate in the crowd. The constitution of our country is the most powerful thing thats holding this diverisified country together. The very expression "I have the right to throw you out" says it all.
* Well India for sure has grown rapidly on the economical front, is that so in case of Social growth too?
-> The economical growth in case of India has been phenomenal and its cause of this growth that today India stands where it is.The incident of sending 110kg of gold as debt in 1991 to Britain prompted by shaarp decline in the foreign echange levels of the country was the one that made us realize the importance of economical growth. But its sad to see that the social growth has not been much talkedof in recent years. The society is still plagued by certain social activities like female foeticide, dowry(surprisnigly its still prevalentthough in lesser terms) and many more. Infact the growth of this counrty is an accelerated one and now is the time to shift to the inclusive one.
* Do you feel that the problems like corruption n communal distress are all because of the politicians?
-> Politicans are somewhat responsible for that. In recent time there has been a credibility lapse with respect to these politicians. One is sometimesashamed to see the proceedings of the institutes like parliament where the important bills and budgets get passed away without any debate jsut becausethe opposition has walked out of the house. Debate is what is missing these days there in but ploticians are not the only sinners. The lack of civialactivism is another major cause of all these problems. The satyagraha and other gandhian activities before independence where all successful because ofactive participation of the masses of this country. But after Independence such participation has been missing. What does the youth of the country(includingme) today do than just crying over the system. Well we keep crying for the basic facilities but do not care or rather dare to get into the system and trychange it. We need to make the public aware of its basic rights and more importantly enter this system ourselves and change it.
* What actions do you feel need to be taken up now in this country?
-> One needs to get to the poorer and help them in growing independently rather than giving them some financial help. One needs to provide them with basic facilities of health and education and that too the best ones, one is really ashamed to see the condition of government schools and hospitals. The need of the hour is to concentrate on them and stop mesmerising the people with sensex growth. The guys gaining from the high sensex levels are not the ones who may the taxes(thanks to no capital gain tax of our country). The four lane roads do help you with foreign investments but what is sad to see is that still many villages do not have proper connectivity to these cities, which i feel is much more important for a nation like ours where there has been sharp rise in village to town to metros movement of people in recent years.
India is a country of contradictions, where one thing looks as good as its contradiction and that's the best part for this country. We are proud of this 60 year old nation of ours in every sense and hopefully 60 years from now we would be much prouder of India.
