Samvit "Why MBA?"
This has been around ever since i got into third year of my college and kind of decided to go for CAT. The step towards MBA was triggered by two things: Firstly not being able to get through the best of the engineering colleges in the country and secondly because everyone around was going for the same. Since both were not really convincing in any way, that led to not so outstanding performance in the CAT. Anyhow it was enough to get me to the interview rounds of one of the good colleges. And quite naturally the first question to be asked was "Why MBA?". Oh and the explanation was obvious too, transition from Engineering to Management, thats what everyone does and thats exactly what i look forward to(Not exactly the same words but then yes the intent was similar). Even got selected but that day i realized a couple of things: One that i wasn't prepared for MBA and certainly not convinced as to whether i should opt for it.
Things are different now: After slogging day and night for past 4 years on various projects and meeting all kinds of people, i've seen a part of the world and feel motivation is the real mantra for success in MBA. Considering the fact that MBA demands good quality time of your life and also quite a huge investment in financial terms, its easy to loose focus in case of no motivation. When i started working there was so much to learn in terms of technical skills as well as functional, as my career progressed i found things getting less exciting and i started looking out for better challenges, shifting to presales was one of them. But now i feel that the slope of my learning curve is dying out. I am surrounded with people from similar background and at times it seems that we tend to think on similar lines. Thus, its time to look beyond the regular stuff. Well, the qualification and MBA clearly fits the gap, as it helps me get into roles where i have the control to decide the course of action i.e. to lay down strategies for others to follow.
The B-schools firstly provide me the opportunity to be in diversified environment, sitting in a class with people from different backgrounds certainly opens up a door for me to new things and new thought processes. How different discussions in such atmosphere would be! Secondly, the rigorous academic schedule followed at these institutions polishes the gems collected from different spheres of the world. It will be great to come out of the comfort zone that i've got into currently and being proactive towards something new.
