When the going gets tough, tough get going.. Retail network, lets help them :)
With all this FDI in retail debate doing the rounds in the nation, its reminds me how times like these are the test of character. How the difficult times open up a window of opportunity for the brave to stand tall and make history.
The opponents of the retail FDI treat Walmart as its symbol and debate how this move of the government would leave the mom and pop store owners in a difficult situation. Personally i feel this argument holds no good as the bond between the consumer and these stores is too strong to be broken by some single walmart store in a city. Lets talk about Chennai, how many stores do you think will walmart open up here, one two or max three, which would be too less of city population coverage. Such stores will thrive only the monthly ration transactions and if the local kriyana stores can hold on the consumer base by improving their service. There clearly is every possibility that these stores can then give the FDI based stores a run for their money.
But yes, things really need to improve for such scenario. The local stores need to be organised better. They need to learn from the history, if they can be united into a big group then the walmart stores will surely have tough time penetrating the market in india.
Quality of service will surely hold the key.
This brings me to the idea of a retail network for such stores with better connectivity with the consumer. Lets help them win this battle :)
